About this Story
Join Judith for a dangerous and hysterical journey to the edge of your 'genital functions!'   She first considered this material when at 50: she went to her doctor with a complaint of low energy, constant crying, and.......

I got some bizarre disease. Unlike our parents generation I think that going to a mainstream medical practitioner is a little like putting your money in a Vegas slot machine. However, when after herbs, acupuncture, and meditation the strangeness was still upon me, it was time to make an appointment.
"Doctor, it's three months now.  I greet the sun with all the joy of a vampire, have the energy level of a slug on an August sidewalk, and am crying all the time.  What is wrong?"
Now, my doctor  was clearly the most brilliant diagnostician in America because he nodded sagely, said he knew my problem, and  could prescribe something. "A solution?' I gasped "No blood tests, no nasty pale green johnny?  Don't I have some peculiar jungle disease?"
Holding his kind, even, professional, tone he assured me "No, you're depressed.  Let me give you something for it."
"Wait" I parried "I'm a gardener.  When there's a weed in the garden, pulling it out is the best course. If i'm depressed wouldn't it be better to figure out why, and smoke the sneaky bugger out at it's source?"
Smiling, he came back, "No, all women your age go through this.  Just let me prescribe something for you."
As a child of the 60's, I am steeped in the belief that drugs are for recreation, not maintenance.  So, I  wrote myself a prescription.  It was for a new medical practitioner and decided it was time to seriously observe what was going on in my life!"

The result of that extended observation is this little love letter of an entertainment for all women who, as Sigmund Freud would say, "are reaching beyond their genital function," and the men who love them.

From ranting about our culture's emphasis on being Sexy at Sixty, to exploring the realties of being Snow White's mother, Black  probes the dark edges of menopause. Never one to leave audiences in a state of despair she introduces us to the adventures of a new, worthy, super heroine Queen Crone, and has created an original fairy tale upon which we can hang our futures. This show says that at any age there are adventures to be had, mischief to be made, and choices to be wrestled with!
