People Are Saying About This Story
This is the thinking woman's version of Menopause: The Musical,.......Black is a warm and dynamic storyteller, exposing the legacy of bias against older women with a wry sense of humor. In fact, she shows how life after 50 can be wonderful. .......Smart and undeniably funny, That Fading Scent... is a great example of the power of storytelling."
~ The Orlando Sentinel
"Seriously funny"
~ The Providence Journal
Judith Black's "The Fading Scent " is by turns, fearless, funny, poetically engaging and certainly willing to look the crone behind the mother behind the virgin in the eye and tell it like it is. As a man, her journey offers me insight into the realm of the feminine and at the same time, prompts me to ask, could I be half as honest or funny in dealing with my inner geezer??
~ NSN Fringe Festival Producer Loren Niemi
From ranting about our culture's emphasis on being Sexy at Sixty, to exploring the realties of being Snow White's mother, Black probes the dark edges of menopause. Never one to leave audiences in a state of despair she introduces us to the adventures of a new, worthy, super heroine Queen Crone, and has created an original fairy tale upon which we can hang our futures. This show says that at any age there are adventures to be had, mischief to be made, and choices to be wrestled with!
Judith Black is a masterful performer. With a blend of story, song and comedy, she keeps her audiences listening on the edge of their seats. To see her perform is to become a fan.
~ Mark Binder, Director, American Story Theater.
Judith Black's performance was both powerful and playful. She takes a touchy issue and makes us laugh and get indignant at all the right things. She transforms not only herself through her portrayal of characters, but also the audience through the stories and the magic she weaves.
~ Mary Wright, Director, Leheigh Storytelling Festival
